Overview, What Nobel Biocare Is and Why It Matters
Nobel Biocare is the implant company most directly descended from Per-Ingvar Brånemark's original 1965 osseointegration discovery, the work that created modern dental-implant dentistry as we know it. The company holds the longest unbroken clinical record in the field (forty-plus years of published Brånemark-protocol survival data), pioneered the All-on-4 protocol with Dr. Paulo Maló in 1998, and remains the global benchmark for full-arch immediate-loading systems through its current All-on-X and NobelActive ranges.
At Stunning Dentistry
Nobel Biocare is our recommended system whenever the case anatomy points to immediate-loading at higher torque ranges, where the NobelActive tapered geometry achieves primary stability in extraction sockets and atrophic ridges that other systems struggle with. The placement-protocol audit is renewed annually with a Nobel Biocare-supervised review.
Nobel Biocare, Brand and Manufacturer Background
{{IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER:Nobel Biocare manufacturing or research facility, clean-room interior or Brånemark archive imagery}}
Nobelpharma evolved through Procordia, into Nobel Biocare AB, into the current Nobel Biocare Group acquired by Danaher in 2014 and now part of Envista Holdings (NYSE: NVST). The company headquarters are in Kloten, Switzerland; manufacturing concentrates in Yorba Linda, California (USA), Mahwah, New Jersey (USA), and Karlskoga, Sweden. Total cumulative implants placed worldwide exceeds 13 million as of the most recent annual report.

Regulatory Clearances and Quality Standards
- FDA 510(k), clearances for the original Brånemark system from the early 1980s onwards; current K-numbers for Replace, Active, and BCC available through the FDA public database
- CE marking, full conformity to EU MDR (2017/745) since the 2024 transition deadline
- TGA Australia, registered Class IIb medical device
- CDSCO India, registered through the BIS Class C medical device pathway
- PMDA Japan, registered for clinical use
ISO 13485 across manufacturing sites; full lot-level traceability.
At Stunning Dentistry
Nobel Biocare lot tracking runs through the same SD-INV-02 protocol as every other implant brand in our inventory. A manufacturer recall is actionable within forty-eight hours.

Surface Treatment and Osseointegration Profile
TiUnite is the Nobel Biocare proprietary surface, a moderately rough titanium oxide layer produced by anodisation in a phosphate-rich electrolyte. The result is a thicker oxide than machined titanium (0.6–10 µm vs <0.2 µm for machined), with a porous topography at the micro-scale that supports rapid bone-to-implant contact.
The TiUnite hydrophilicity profile is more conservative than Straumann's SLActive, Nobel Biocare positioned the surface as a stable, well-documented chemistry rather than chasing the high-surface-energy preserved-storage approach. For the clinical case, TiUnite has the longest single-surface long-term cohort outside of SLA and is the surface most commonly published in immediate-load full-arch literature.
At Stunning Dentistry
TiUnite is our default for immediate-load anatomy where the case requires a tapered geometry, NobelActive or BLX (Straumann) compete here, and the choice between them often comes down to surgeon preference and the specific bone-density profile of the case. Both are documented in our SD-SURF-01 protocol.

Surgical Protocol, How Nobel Biocare Is Placed
Drill Sequence and Torque Profile
Nobel Biocare uses brand-specific drill kits, different for the parallel-walled Replace Conical Connection, the tapered NobelActive, and the BCC ranges. Standard saline irrigation rate of 50 ml/min. Target insertion torque is 35–45 Ncm for delayed loading; immediate loading requires 45–70 Ncm depending on the protocol (NobelActive achieves higher torque in tapered placement).
Recommended Primary Stability Threshold
Available Connections
- NobelReplace Conical Connection (NRCC), the conventional posterior workhorse with platform-switching geometry
- NobelActive, tapered, immediate-load-optimised, internal conical connection with thread-switching design that condenses bone during placement
- NobelParallel Conical Connection (NPCC), for sites where parallel-walled fixtures are preferred (multi-unit cases)
- All-on-4 with multi-unit abutments, the Maló protocol that Nobel Biocare codified into product
Recommended Sites and Indications
NobelActive for immediate placement and immediate load; NobelReplace Conical for standard delayed loading; All-on-4 multi-unit configurations for full-arch; zygomatic compatibility through partner-prosthetic systems.
At Stunning Dentistry
Every Nobel Biocare placement is logged with the documented surgical sequence and the implant lot number. Nobel Biocare All-on-4 protocols specifically use the original Maló surgical sequence, signed by Dr. Ravi Sharma (Lead Surgical Protocols) on every full-arch case.

Prosthetic Options, What Sits On Top
- Cement-retained crowns, abutments with platform-switching on Conical Connection ranges
- Screw-retained crowns, for posterior cases prioritising retrievability
- Multi-unit abutments, 17°, 30° angulation for All-on-4 / All-on-6 / pterygoid placements
- NobelProcera CAD-CAM, Nobel's in-house digital prosthetic workflow
- NobelPearl, ceramic two-piece implant variant for aesthetic anterior

Indications and Contraindications
Indications. Single-tooth, multi-unit, full-arch (All-on-4 / All-on-6), immediate placement, immediate load, zygomatic-anchor pterygoid combinations.
Absolute contraindications. Active head-and-neck cancer with current radiation; bisphosphonate therapy without coordinated cessation; severe untreated systemic disease.

Stunning Dentistry's Experience With Nobel Biocare
We have placed approximately 2,300 Nobel Biocare fixtures across fourteen years. The 924-implant formal audit included 248 Nobel fixtures, survival at four-year follow-up: 96.4%. We hold authorised-provider status; the most recent Nobel-supervised audit (February 2026) issued zero non-conformances.
At Stunning Dentistry
Nobel Biocare All-on-4 cases are placed by surgeons who have personally trained on the Maló protocol, the surgical sequence we run on Nobel All-on-4 is the original Maló sequence, not a Stunning-modified variant. Patients can see the protocol document on request.

Why Us
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nobel Biocare better than Straumann?
Both are tier-1. NobelActive's tapered geometry is preferred for immediate-load in extraction sockets and atrophic ridges; Straumann SLActive is preferred where accelerated osseointegration in low-density bone is the priority. The decision is anatomy-driven.
Why does Stunning Dentistry stock Nobel Biocare?
The Brånemark heritage and the Maló All-on-4 protocol make Nobel the canonical reference for full-arch immediate-loading. Patients seeking the original All-on-4 system come to Nobel.
Will my home dentist be able to service this implant?
Yes, Nobel Biocare is one of the three most-distributed implant systems globally.
What is the warranty position?
Lifetime warranty on the implant; 10-year on the prosthesis (same terms as our Straumann warranty position).
